Apple top CoolBrands coolest brands survey: What makes tech so hip?

Written By Unknown on Monday, September 24, 2012 | 4:13 AM

Apple have topped the yearly CoolBrands analyze, which duty which stamps are painstaking the most hip in the UK on a yearly basis.

Compiled by a categorize of key cultural influencers, designers, journalists and musicians, and Together with celebrities such as Carl Barat and Eliza Doolittle, this year sees tech brands invasion the list, creation up 45% of the top 20. Previous year, tech brands accounted for just 25%. Alongside Apple are tech companies together with Nikon, Bose and Bang & Olufsen. So what's turned tech from geek to chic? We're putting it down to the Three A-s; convenience, affordability and aspirational...talent.

Take an iPhone 5; it's a top-end product, at the spiteful edge of propose, but you can walk down any highstreet and pick one up from manifold stores. It's priced at a premium comparative to its competitors, but not out of arrive at of the general man; having a flashy new iPhone will still create you the envy of your mates without infringement the Incline, while an Aston Martin what's left the coldness of the super-rich. And the super-rich, in this undersupply age of bogus bankers are a vilified gang that are regarding as cool as Chumbawamba at a Gary Glitziness themed karaoke night.

Free online services auxiliary back this up, with BBC iPlayer, Twitter and YouTube all building the top 20 cut. It's a sentiment that Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands Expert Ruling body, regularly echoes: "It is appealing that in this age of starkness our perception of cool has increasingly shifted from aspirational, luxury brands to free or more reasonable brands that make available us with pleasure. The occurrence of the online brands like BBC iPlayer, Twitter, YouTube and Skype are a intense case in point. "Perhaps, reflective of its lack of sensation since becoming a shared  company, Facebook has failed to join its peers in the top 20."

For Facebook, it seems that overexposure has done it no cool-favours. When each one and their dog uses a advantage , it reaches dissemination point; taken for contracted like a public ecstasy system, but just as likely to irk and annoy.

The full CoolBrands 2012/13 top 20 is as follows:

1. Apple
2. YouTube
3. Aston Martin
4. Twitter
5. Google
6. BBC iPlayer
7. Glastonbury
8. Virgin Atlantic
9. Bang & Olufsen
10. Liberty
11. Sony
12. Bose

Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumors Surface In Wake Of iPhone 5 Pre-Order Bonanza

In what would appear to be a little bit too much of a coincidence, information about Samsung’s next flagship Android phone has “leaked” to the Korean press, with several blurred information about the Galaxy S4. The fact that this information has emerged now (from sources that wish toKeep on anonymous, of course), so soon after the announcement of the iPhone 5, makes us think it may be a deliberate hype-generator from Samsung.

As for the genuine rumors themselves, not much hard and fast info was given. Hardware-wise, the Qualcomm processor that powers the current Galaxy S III will be dispensed with in favour of a Samsung Exynos chip, and the screen will increase in size to 5-inches. The common trappings of the Samsung top of the line phones will remain pretty similar, with the S4 running an AMOLED screen and the latest version of Android.

TheMajor bit of news from the Korea Time article is the timeframe that Samsung is aiming for: if the rumors are true, they’ll be unveiling the Galaxy S4 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which takes place at the end of February. Even for Samsung, a company that’s been sticking good-looking closely to an annual release schedule for new models, that’s a pretty early announcement. A February announcement would create for just nine months concerning the unveiling of the Galaxy S III and S4.

Excitingly, Samsung is also considering the inclusion of their flexible display technology in the S4. Samsung has been demoing this technology – which uses the inherent flexibility of AMOLED displays to make a phone that can bend – for awhile now, but it has yet to see commercial application. Seeing the Galaxy S4 finally launch in flexible form would be very cool indeed.

Leaked Details On HTC’s New Phablet: 1080p Display

Finally, it appears a creditable competitor to the Galaxy Note’s phablet throne may be on the way. HTC Source reported a two days ago that they had a reliable source confirming the specs of an upcoming 5-inch jumbo smartphone from HTC. Now, more information have emerged in the form of what looks like an formal promo shot of the new phablet, which is it seems that called the HTC One X5.

As for the leaked specs in question, various of them areAttractiveimpressive, and some of them really aren’t. First, the impressive ones: the One X5 will have a 5-inch, 1080p display with a gargantuan 480 ppi. That’s by far the maximumpixel density on the market right now, and will surely look awsome. It also has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, which should perform at a similar level to the Galaxy Note II’s quad-core Exynos processor.

Now for the not so impressive part: It only has 16GB of internal memory, with no microSD slot. There’s really no exonerate for a device this big not having a microSD slot, and this is a appealing big turn-off, exceptionally when only a meagre 16GB of internal storage is offered. It also won’t have a removable battery cover, which is always aggravating.

Despite these shortcomings, the display alone may be enough to make this phablet a viable option for many people. It will also only have 1.5GB of RAM, while the Galaxy Note II has 2GB. We expect both devices to arrive in time for the holidays, so we could see a good-looking fierce head-to-head phablet battle this Christmas.
